What is Kumkumadi Tailam? Benefits, Uses & How to Choose the Right One

For over a thousand years, Kumkumadi Tailam has been Ayurveda’s most treasured radiance oil — named for kumkuma, the Sanskrit word for saffron. First described in the Ashtanga Hridaya, an authentic preparation is built on a sesame-oil base infused with real saffron and sixteen or more herbs, each steeped slowly so the oil draws out their full potency.

Genuine Kumkumadi is never bright orange or synthetically perfumed; its colour is earthy and its aroma herbal. Used as a few drops each night, it works to brighten dull skin, soften the look of dark spots, and restore a lit-from-within glow — the foundation of our Kumkumadi 24K Oil.

Bakuchi vs Retinol: Why Ayurveda’s Natural Alternative is Gentler

Both renew skin at the cellular level — but one comes with peeling, dryness and sun sensitivity. The other is a plant.

Read the note

Bakuchi (Psoralea corylifolia) contains bakuchiol, a botanical that encourages cell turnover much like retinol — without the irritation. Where synthetic retinol can leave skin red and flaking, bakuchi is gentle enough for sensitive skin and can be used morning or night.

A simple routine: cleanse, a few drops of Bakuchi LumiSerum, then moisturise — always with sunscreen by day. Results build quietly over weeks, not overnight.

The Complete Ayurvedic Skincare Routine: Morning & Evening

Cleanse, tone, treat, moisturise — mapped to your skin’s rhythm and your dosha.

Read the note

Ayurveda reads skin through the three doshas — Vata (dry), Pitta (sensitive), Kapha (oily). Your routine flexes to suit, but the four steps stay constant: cleanse with Kumkuma Glow, tone with Kumkuma Dew, treat with Suvarna Serum or Kumkumadi Oil, and seal with Eladi Cream or Suvarna Gel.

Mornings lean light and protective; evenings go richer, letting potent oils do their work overnight while you sleep.

Shatadhauta Ghritam: The 100-Times-Washed Ghee of Ancient Royals

Why washing ghee one hundred times transforms it into one of Ayurveda’s most cooling skin balms.

Read the note

The name means “hundred-times-washed.” Pure ghee is worked with water again and again until its texture turns silken and its character changes entirely — light, deeply penetrating, and remarkably soothing for inflamed or sensitive skin. The process is described in the Charaka Samhita.

Our version carries a subtle cranberry note, modernising the preparation while keeping its time-honoured integrity intact.

5 Ayurvedic Ingredients That Actually Work for Dark Spots

Saffron, Bakuchi, Turmeric, the Eladi complex and Papaya — and the science of why they fade pigmentation.

Read the note

Saffron (in Kumkumadi) brightens and evens tone; Bakuchi accelerates renewal; turmeric calms and clarifies; the classical Eladi group nourishes; papaya enzymes gently lift dullness. Each is centuries-tested and gentle.

Expect gradual, real change — most see a visible difference over six to eight weeks of consistent, patient use.

Why Glass Packaging Matters: Preserving Potency in Every Bottle

How the right bottle protects the botanicals inside — and the planet outside.

Read the note

Plastic can leach into oil-based formulations and lets light degrade delicate actives. Premium glass is inert, shields against UV, and keeps Ayurvedic botanicals true to their intended potency from our hands to yours.

It is heavier and costlier — but it is the honest choice for slow, small-batch beauty.
